My baking experiment #77 – strawberry scones

It’s a beautiful fall morning, and to start the day off on a sweet note, i baked some strawberry scones for breakfast:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup milk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup chopped strawberries

Preheat oven to 400 F. Line baking sheet with parchment.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add butter and work into flour mixture with fingers until it resembles coarse meal.Β Whisk together milk, egg and sugar. Add to flour mixture and lightly mix until dough just comes together. Mix in chopped strawberries. Divide dough into 5 equal-sized balls and space them evenly on baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with strawberry preserves.

I baked them in a muffin tin so they ended up looking rather like muffins. However, their texture is flakyΒ & crumbly, just as scones should be. They taste wonderful: buttery & mildly sweet, accented with the sweetness of strawberries. What a perfect way to start the day! πŸ™‚
