I’ve baked crème brûlée before; it’s a custard dessert with a layer of hard caramel on top. Today i’m gonna make crème caramel, flan, or caramel pudding: it’s a custard dessert with a layer of soft caramel on top.
- caramel sauce
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Pour caramel sauce into 2 ramekins. Beat remaining ingredients together and pour into ramekins.
Set ramekins into pan and fill pan with water halfway up sides. Bake 30-35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool then refrigerate until ready to serve. Invert onto plate before serving.
Yum… this custard is fabulous! The texture is smooth & soft like silken tofu. The custard itself is slightly sweet, together with the caramel topping… amazing! I love it! 🙂
