My baking experiment #101 – chocolate brownie cake

X’mas is approaching and there are so many things i wanna bake. These past few days i’ve been looking at recipes and deciding what to prepare for x’mas brunch. I’ve come up with a tentative menu and am pretty excited, but i’ll be pretty busy the next couple days baking up a storm.

So for dessert tonight, i decided to go with something simple yet decadent: a 3-ingredient chocolate brownie cake.

1/3 cup chocolate chips
1 large egg
1 Tbsp flour

Preheat oven to 325°. Lightly grease a ramekin or oven-safe glass bowl.
Microwave chocolate in 30-second increments until chocolate melts. Stir until smooth and set aside to cool slightly.
Place egg and flour in another bowl and beat until combined. Add to melted chocolate and beat until smooth.
Transfer batter to prepared ramekin. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until edges are set.
Cool in ramekin on wire rack 10 minutes then carefully remove from ramekin. Enjoy warm with ice cream.

I can’t decide if this is a brownie or a cake. It’s neither as dense & fudgy as a brownie, nor as soft & fluffy as a cake since no leavening agents was used. It’s somewhere in-between. In any case, this brownie-cake is super rich & chocolatey. With only 3 ingredients, it’s super easy to whip up. And with no butter or sugar, i like to think of it as semi-healthy. 😉

Top it with ice-cream and some chocolate syrup, it’s a perfect yummy brownie sundae!
