easy homemade beignets

Today i suddenly had a hankering for some fresh-made beignets: those soft, pillowy pieces of fried dough. But i didn’t wanna bother with yeast or kneading dough. So i whipped up a batch of quick & easy beignets.

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted

  1. In small bowl, whisk together milk and egg yolk.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Stir wet into dry ingredients, then stir in melted butter, mixing until soft dough forms.
  3. Drop 1-Tbsp scoops of dough into 350ΒΊFΒ oil, careful not to overcrowd pan. Fry for 2 minutes until golden brown. Transfer onto paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

These beignets are so yummy! Light & pillowy, almost like biting into a cloud. They are nice & crispy on the outside, soft & tender inside. They are so quick & easy to whip up; no messing with yeast or kneading dough or waiting to proof necessary. Just mix & fry, and we have freshly made beignets in 20 minutes! Perfect with some cafe au lait! πŸ™‚
